The Lumière festival, the leading event of classic cinema, returns from Saturday, the 15th to Sunday, the 23rd of October for its 14th edition. Through the festival, the Lumière Institute renews its commitment and support for the cinema of yesterday and today, paying tribute to its history and celebrating its diversity and richness.
The Lumière Classics label was created to showcase the finest recent restorations and allow their (re)discovery by an increasingly wide audience. Films receiving the label may be part of the “Lumière Classics” section itself as well as the “Treasures & Curiosities” or “Epic Screenings” sections.
The label highlights the extensive work accomplished by archives, film libraries, rights-holders and foundations, who aim to restore both great classics of the history of cinema and lesser-known films that are just as essential to the global cinema landscape. The search for these lost prints and the meticulous reconstruction of the films constitute the second history of the films, after their shooting.
Archives, film libraries, producers, distributors and studios from all over the world are invited to submit their restored films.
Submissions will close on Friday, July 1st. Once selected, the films will be screened at the festival venues of Lyon and its metropolitan area.
